Kayo Sports

Kayo have built their own player that drops most of the conventions that we’re used to. They have taken away the ability to skip back 10seconds with the remote gesture, which is super important if you’ve missed a moment in the game! And the search function is also really difficult to use. It is tricky to tell whether a click has registered (you have to wait until it loads and begins playing), and the clicks to confirm after a scroll often don’t register so there is no way to know whether you need to click again or if it’s just not loading properly. There also aren’t any preview frames, so the only way to know where you have scrolled to is to enable Key Moments, which can spoil the result. Program availability is great, but there is a long way to go with usability of the player.

I thought this would be a great way to cover sports without a Foxtel option. It could have been... but it isn’t. The app constantly crashes. I’m not talking once every couple of days, repeatedly in the same day. Despite uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting both iPad and iPhone platforms. Just frustrated with it. It should be able to stream through Apple TV or Google ChromeCast well... and sometimes it’s serviceable. But I didn’t go with this option because it was sold to me as ‘working sometimes’. When I decided to subscribe to it, it was sold to me as being the best way to get US sorts without having to use Foxtel and it would stream to a TV like any other media I would use in a similar way. It isn’t. Even though a basic Foxtel package with sports is twice what I pay for this junk, at least I can stream Foxtel and I get access to the Watch ESPN service that connects me with more of the sports that I want. This could have been a great app. It ends up being a daily pain and a constant reminder that it doesn’t work.

If only there was a rating less than 1 star! I had paid my subscription via the iTunes app for July 2019, but for some reason this payment was not received by Kayo Sports. Their standard response is that I need to follow up with Apple for a refund and enquire why the payment didn’t go through. Apple’s report a problem page redirects this problem back to App provider to resolve this issue, leaving me in this predicament of paying on the due date but still not getting the desired service. There’s no point in asking Apple for a refund as this refund gets summarily rejected. This issue has cropped up twice. Last month, I ended up paying an additional $25 through the Kayo website just to keep my subscription active. This was over and above the $25 that I had already paid via the iTunes app. I refuse to pay $50 again this month. I wonder if I’ll ever get my money back. Signing up for your service is/was a huge mistake that I’m still paying the price for (literally). And you have a customer service chat app that times out so frequently that you can barely even explain the problem, let alone get a fix. After fleecing customers like myself, I’m sure you can at least afford a call centre to resolve these matters over the phone! Whether I get refund or not, I’m definitely not going to continue my subscription. Of course, this won’t make iota of difference to Kayo Sports!

Signed up last weekend to watch The Monza race and was very impressed with the viewing quality and the auto buffering depending on reception. However after having a few days to really look around there’s a few really basic things lacking. 1. Resume for where you left off 2. A general search bar? How is that not the first thing you put on an app? (I know the search option to get a sport but you can’t search specific things) 3. Having the different sports categories listed in the drop down side menu would be such a better layout than the current design. Has the potential to be a great app and service but get some of those basics perfected. You’re essentially a Netflix for sports, so check out how amazing that app is and take some design ideas!

When overseas u are unable to use this service, however there is no advice given when u try to log in overseas. It simply says unable to log in and try again later. Which I did, again and again. Turns out after finally hearing back from their support team that it does not work overseas. I asked to cancel subscription as am overseas for some time - and it turned out I had just 1 day earlier been charged a new months subscription ($25) which they refused to refund despite the fact that I was (and still am) overseas so I had been completely unable to access account for weeks prior in order to cancel account and avoid the fee being charged. Customer service was terrible, they made no attempt to understand my position, simply kept repeating that they do not do refunds in any circumstances. Rubbish systems and pathetic support. Clap clap Kayo - u lost a long time customer here.
