Variety

The main attraction of the Variety app is to be able to read Variety. And that works just fine. But nothing else works. You can’t share, videos never work, photos rarely load, and the galleries tab has never worked. Every time I click it..the apps crashes and goes back to my home screen. Also...they should bring back comment sections.

Well the previous review was about bringing back comments. Lol that’s hilarious. Let me tell you why. I was reading about The Hunts cancellation. Every comment I made & I tried about 5-6 x vanished. Obviously the comment section is only for the people on the Left that would promote such a disgusting film. I wonder if we made such a film when Obama won or if the 😭👶🏻 Loser Hillary has won, and it was the Right bunting the Socialist Right would we be serving Life without Parol ( at the very least ). Well I got the app to leave my comment but it has more chance here than on comments. What type of insane brainwashed person writes a book like this & what type of Producer, Director, Studio would find it so entertaining that they’d make a movie out of it. This speaks Volumes & confirms what us Right Leaners knew all along. Sad 😢 is all I have to say. Your app maybe good or may not but who cares when you so bias to not allow a comment. Good Luck

I simply can’t understand why the app would be redesigned to just have one general feed without any option to read by topic (TV, Film, Digital, Business, etc.). As someone who works in the media industry and reads Variety daily, it’s incredibly sad and I have deleted this app from my phone. Instead, I have to use my mobile browser to read articles from the web page. This is literally the first app review I have ever written but this UI/UX is so poor that I felt compelled to do so. Whoever is the CTO should immediately implement changes - I would imagine app engagement has totally collapsed. This is digital media 101 and calls into question Variety as a leading player in media itself.

Just upgraded from the not very good older version. Endless scrolling to get to all the headlines. No longer able to look for news in a particular section — look at all the news or none. The articles used to be more readable in old app than on the awful website, but this is now web based in app reading experience with slow load times and an all around awful reading experience. The Variety app has long been awful, and this is just a new variety of bad. Wish I could go back to the older version for pre-iOS 10 that was a wee bit less bad than this.

Even after the most recent update, this app still struggles to function. Many articles disappear in the middle of reading them, leaving you with a blank white screen. Hyperlinks lead to nowhere. Everything is incredibly slow, and pages constantly reformat as you’re trying to read. The list goes on. Coming from the premier source of entertainment news, I’m surprised how terrible this app is. Please get it together, Variety. You have the content you just need a usable interface!
