Receipts by Wave

I’ve tried a number of budgeting apps, even paid ones, and have always been sorely disappointed and gone back to using boring old spreadsheets, but this is hands down the best budgeting app that I’ve tried yet and I think I will never go back to spreadsheets again! Overall this app is very easy to use with all of the features I need. The receipt scanning is excellent and gets things right at least 9/10 times (occasionally it will pick the wrong text for the store name, but the numbers have always been right which is the important thing to me) My only complaint is that receipts and bank transactions have to be manually merged so that they don’t show up twice, if this one small issue were fixed I think this could be the perfect budgeting service!

I've been using Wave for about 1 month, and the online version has been wonderful to use. I thought this app would make receipt uploads easier; however, I noticed that when I uploaded the receipts via this app (and moved them into the approved category) they did not show up under the transactions category on accounting when I logged in online. Also, I noticed that the receipts would not process for a long time, so I had to manually process the receipts in order to approve them (input all the data into the fields that are supposed to automatically fill in). My final note is that when I was manually filling in the receipt data and clicked on the receipt picture to view it, I saw nothing but a blank screen (not due to slow internet). The receipt image would not load, which means I still needed the paper receipt in order to input the correct data. Not bad if you still have the receipt in your hand, but it's a pain if you don't have the receipt easily accessible.

I have enjoyed using this app and the online software it pairs with. I do have one problem though. On the online software you can download transactions from your bank. Whenever you upload a receipt for one of these transactions, the app and software treat it like an additional transaction. There is no option to pair the receipt with one of the transactions that has been downloaded from the bank. To work around this you have to login online and delete the downloaded transaction from the bank, which kind of adds back the time that the receipt scanning saved. All in all I enjoy the app but if there was a way to pair the scanned receipt with an existing downloaded transaction it would be worthy of 5 stars.

First, I really don’t want to complain about an app or software that works for my business needs and offered for free. That being said, IF I could pay a fee and have some of the major bugs fixed, I would. The app works ok for me, but I find it struggles to update the receipt processing (moving from processing to review) unless I shut the whole thing down and restart. I get notifications they’re complete, but not moved for review. The duplicate transactions from my credit card that require merging is my biggest frustration with the overall platform. Again, I like the platform and think the wave team is engaged with FAQ responses, so consider this a positive review. Keep up the good work.

I wanted this to work as well as the desktop website, but it doesn’t at all. First of all, you can take a photo of a receipt or upload an image stored on your phone. Sounds good right? However, that’s about where the app stops functioning. After your images are uploaded, they stay in a processing status for up to 24 hours. The app notifies you when they are ready for review. Then it gets even worse. The image you uploaded is gone, so you can’t even see which one you are reviewing. Additionally, the entire scan yields no results: all the fields are blank and you have to fill it in yourself. But wait, you can’t fill it in yourself because the photos of the receipts you uploaded have vanished. In other words, this app is a great idea, but it doesn’t work at all and therefore serves no purpose. I sincerely hope they fix this and get it working.
