Nectar: Shop & Collect Points

I’m not a person who writes reviews (usually) but this, this gets a big thumbs down. Pathetic is an understatement for this app. Four phone calls to nectar help and still not sure if I can redeem points! Do I want to ? I ask myself? First problem . When you get your card you have 19 numbers on it !!!! BUT to register your card with them You only enter the second 11 numbers!!! Or problems occur. To make things worse the first card I had nectar had to replace because of a faulty batch of cards. Question why give you the first 8 when you don’t need them ???? Question when I applied for the card how was I able to do so when you say I omitted my date of birth!!! And app refusing to register me !!! Question why is it that I can collect nectar points by BUYING things on my iPhone BUT to SPEND them i have to use a LESS SECURE COMPUTER!!!!!!! When your pass-wording accessing is like trying to access FORT KNOX!!!!! Question why did I get an email from you that I had changed my pass word WHEN I DIDN’T and I’m locked out of my account WHEN I WASN'T. Worst app I’ve ever had . Worst company to deal with. Never ever had this type of situation before. Useless totally useless .

I have never been so disappointed in an app to be honest. I shop online via the app but most of the the time points are never automatically added even after a few months of waiting! I shopped at SportsDirect for example and never received points. When I called Nectar they could clearly see the transaction had been tracked but I was told wait 6 months! The app says points will be awarded with 35 days. Absolute waste of time with the eShops. It has been the same with TopShop and Debenhams online transactions. It only seems to work well for Argos and Sainsbury’s. These points are added almost instantly. I do like the bonus Sainsburys offers for my weekly shopping but four of the items were discontinued/out of season so totally pointless and the bonus points were more attractive in the beginning to hook you in and now they are greatly reduced of course. It is better than nothing don’t get me wrong but confusing and frustrating to say the least!

Nectar points is a lovely incentive. It’s nice to know that as you are spending you get something back and the offers are amazing. The points per expenditure is very reasonable too as it is usually a minimum of £1 per point though it’s usually more. With the app you can see your points at a glance as well as load offers. You also have access to all the partner shops where you can earn points as well as detailed info of how many points. It’s not a rip off like so many others where you have to spend so much to get so little back. I would definitely recommend. Money back gained from points comes in very handy at the end of the year.

Seems like I’m not the only one who’s run into the same issue! Signed up for Nectar card and then downloaded the app thinking I could use the digital version in the meantime while they sent out my card. Filled up a full tank of petrol thinking I could make some points only to find that, “oh wait, you can’t actually scan this pointless digital card - it’s just there to look pretty.” Suffice to say, the app in this sense is useless (i.e. not being able to use the loyalty app to collect points) and probably would have helped if this was made more clear. Why you are unable to use the app to collect points is perplexing, and why you even bother displaying the “card” when it does nothing is even more perplexing. When just about every other retailer has this figured out and nicely implemented for years (Tesco, for instance), it’s a bit of a fail for Sainsbury’s here.

For a start, it took a week for me to be able to actually make a Nectar account without your website and app displaying an error message reading: “Something is wrong with that card number.” When I finally manage to create an account and try sign in using “I already have a Nectar card” feature on your app, I am sent through an endless loop of entering my card number and email before being told “You already have a Nectar account, please sign in.” When I attempt to “sign in” I am just sent through the same process of entering my card number and email address when once again I am brought to the “You already have Nectar card, please sign in” page. I have spoken to my local Sainsbury’s and they have told me that the card is collecting points. Thanks to your horribly designed app and website I can’t keep track of these points.
