British Gas Pay As You Go

As I say above, this app is really very useful indeed. Please note I’m making comments about the App itself and not the level of Service I get from British Gas themselves as this is not the place to discuss this which seems to cause some confusion. I can do almost anything inside the app. Make payments, adjust my accounts, submit readings check my account balance/history, on line chat + more. However most importantly in my opinion is the ability to quickly and easily book engineer visits in a few taps. I can cancel and rebook etc etc. The App looks a bit dated but pretty easy to use and navigate which is the most important. Who cares if it does look a bit dated (I like a bit of retro anyway) as long as it works. But here’s the rub and the reason for 4 Stars & not 5 it tends to be a bit buggy and it hangs and you have to close and open it which can be frustrating. But overall a big thumbs up. Cheers

I am a British Gas customer. I cannot believe the low level of service I receive from these guys. I used to think bg stood for all the great things about being British. These people who currently run British Gas have no commitment to anywhere near the level of service you would expect from a prestigious company. The promises made when I swapped suppliers to encourage me to sign up have all disappeared, when I enquired as to the whereabouts of these extras I was told that because I was already a home care customer with them, I didn’t qualify for the bonus items. I can’t believe I am being penalised for already being a customer with boiler cover. It’s outrageous to say the least. Of course, at the point of signing up nothing about this was mentioned, I mean to say, who on earth would have figured that one out. In my opinion, the money invested in employing people to come up with these underhand methods to relieve hardworking people of their hard earned money surely would be better spent on customer services. Currently I am being pressured by bg to have smart meters installed. READ THE REVEIWS PEOPLE. I would not touch these gadgets with a barge pole. Trouble, with a capital T, to say the least. Again, nothing was mentioned at the point of switching and strangely enough I wasn’t informed until after the cooling off period. I can’t wait for the contract to end, as I won’t be just leaving, I’ll be running away from them as fast as I can. Lee

Further to my review of March 16th, two more engineers have visited. To reprise the problem, a small condensate leak back in November had resulted in 9 visits, each creating a new problem, until all that remained was to slip the rubber collar over the flue on the outside wall to prevent rain and insects entering the house. Despite making it clear on the 10th visit that a ladder trained engineer was needed, the attending engineer wasn’t the sole ladder trained engineer in the Midlands, so another day spent waiting for the visit was wasted. At last, a van arrived on the our drive with a ladder on its roof.... the flue is above a single storey extension, so it requires a short ladder climb and a short walk across new shallow sloping concrete roof tiles. Alas, the engineer although ladder trained wasn’t trained to cross roof tiles. So, as I understand it, another engineer, the 12th, will visit on April 25th, I have no idea what hell do, but the last engineer suggested fully scaffolding the back of our house to slip the £1.45 rubber ring over the flue. Is it worth me suggesting I employ a plumber and British Gas pay his bill or have them ask the scaffolders to just slip the ring over the flue instead of scaffolding our house?

I’ve used this app for years, and in my opinion, it does what it needs to do and has always worked fine for me. I don’t care if it hasn’t got the latest UI or AI etc ... it allows me to easily send in meter readings and pay my bills, job done. That is until British Gas brought in their new app. I have since been constantly harassed to update to the new app, to the point that I’m blocked by an upgrade pop up stopping from using the old app, no way to get round it. So I eventually had to give in, I upgraded to a fancy looking app that is glitchy and keeps asking me to log in every time I start it, as if I’ve never used it before. Now when I try to return to the old, WORKING, app, it still keeps telling me to upgrade, which I have done. Yet you can still download the old app? Can someone PLEASE stop the old app from locking me out due to the upgrade prompt or fix the login for the new app? This is probably the third time I’ve written this review and nothing has been dealt with. I eventually end up having to log on to a web browser to do what I used to do on the old app :(

I was persuaded by British Gas online to move to this App. Once I downloaded it and opened it I was unable to use the App as it immediately required me to select upgrade to the Smart App. No way of get out of upgrading. I therefore upgraded and the Smart App then booked a boiler repair and not an annual service despite the App promoting me to book a service. I then resorted to telephoning to sort the mess out only to find that the original date that I booked online and which was confirmed by text and e mail was no longer available! I then had to book another date that was not as convenient for me. Makes me wonder what British Gas are up to. I have had to move away from a smart gas meter as the smart version cut me off despite paying my bills on time. The smart meter which is battery operated failed after a year. The smart meter was replaced with a non smart meter which now works fine. Having been with Scottish Gas for years I am going to take Martin Lewis’ advice and switch provider to get a better deal and hopefully better level of customer service.
