Barkly Pets: Dog Walkers’ App

I have owned my own dog training and pet sitting business for 12 years, all strictly word of mouth. I have adapted, as successful business owners must do, to the era of Gig Economy. Of all the platforms I have used, Barkly is the most consistent, user-friendly, walker-centric, least expensive, and has THE BEST SUPPORT TEAM I have encountered to date. The app itself is the easy to use and virtually big-free with regular updates. Barkly designed its app to be for the benefit of walkers building their own business. Where many apps charge 25% in fees, Barkly fees are substantially less. Their support team is friendly and fast in responding when you need it the most! Overall, totally satisfied with my experience with Barkly!!

I have been walking for Barkly for over 2 years now and I still love it!! As a company they are fantastic— their walker support crew is always quick & helpful whether by text, call, or email. They are always supportive when I get sick or have to cancel walks, and I know they work hard to get those walks covered so I don’t mind when they sometimes ask me if I’m able to cover a walk. I LOVE the flexibility in that I can create my own schedule to fit perfectly into my life. I’m able to choose the dogs I walk, the areas I walk in, and the times & days I’m available. One of my favorite things is that they are constantly asking for feedback from walkers and rolling out surveys prior to making big changes.. they really make me feel as though they are taking their walkers into consideration with every big change they make. The way they try to communicate directly with their walkers is something I’ve always been so appreciative of. I love being a walker not only because of the dogs (obviously the best part— and there are kitties available to watch too!!) but because I always get regular walks in no matter what’s going on in my busy life. I’m pretty sure the walker rates for Barkly are still the best out of all the dog walking apps— I’m grateful to Barkly as a company for staying consistent in that and for the continued communication they have with walkers!! I plan to keep walking dogs with Barkly as long as my schedule possibly permits:)

This is by far the best app for dog walkers. Barkly takes no commission on any of your earnings, and if you earn over $100 in a month you pay an $8.50 membership fee. I’ve met several customers through the app and the webpage it gave me, and I’ve brought most of my private clients onto the app as well. It’s super easy to manage my whole business through this app and they aren’t trying to take all of my earnings like wag or rover. Their customer service when I have had a few questions are very responsive, polite, and actually helpful. If you’ve used the other apps you’ve been waiting for one like this to come along.

The app is nice and intuitive. The reason for five stars even though it’s not perfect is because I have had personal feedback that changes are on there way. I would like to be able to add Stays, Boardings, and DayCare services instead of just walks. Having to use a normal walk for the purposes doesn’t always work and is unprofessional looking to clients. At the moment I have only switched clients I know really well over to the platform because of this single inconvenience. Overall clients and myself like it more than all the competitors and the personal touch of the support team!

This company takes 40% of the walk payout, which is one thing, but in addition to that they will up your payout $2 after you complete 300 walks, meaning once you start to get paid more the app will suggest you less to people looking for walks to keep their costs lower. Additionally that app works poorly and is difficult and confusing to navigate. Most people who request meet and greets (as encouraged by Barkly) never respond. It would be so much easier just to streamline the process and book the walk, as all the other apps for dog walking do. If you cancel a walk they reduce your pay by $3, for how long I don’t know. Being that there are several better and busier dog walking apps available I do not intend to accept walks for bottom dollar while Barkly keeps the rest.
