Aviva Digital GP

I had to book an appointment while at work, which wasn’t the idea - I guess the after working hours appointments are pretty popular. I also wasn't sure if I needed to do anything specific to enable the video call once I’d resistered and booked, so called the digital support number I’d been sent by Aviva - but it didn’t work. Tried it several times. However, I didn’t need to worry, the video call came though on time without any problems, the doctor was friendly and efficient and I’m happy with the end result - much better than waiting 2-3 weeks for an appointment at GP and having to take time away from work for it.

Despite having 4 other people named on my policy this app require me to enter home addresses and GP details for all of my children with no option to simply state that they’re the same details of my own. I also can’t add my wife to my account even though she’s on the same policy. As if this wasn’t enough I then log onto my email account and find that I have to verify each of my children’s details, well not really verify them, but type them all in again, and because the email request doesn’t state which child the email corresponds to I have no way of telling which child’s details I have to enter! On top of this you have to upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate. The site wouldn’t accept a jpeg file so at this point, having wasted 40 minutes of my life I gave up. The process is all a bit 1997 and needs addressing.

The doctor called at the specified time and I had lots of times to choose from. I did miss my first appt as I had booked on my iPad and was waiting at work on my iPhone (you’d kind of the app would sync but it didn’t). I couldn’t access the call on my phone so unfortunately missed the appt. this time I booked on my phone and all went smoothly. It could do with an info page to tell you how the call will work and maybe a demonstration video (perhaps there is one and I’ve missed it). Great app 😊

I have booked three different appointments today and the three times the call comes through and I get a message that my doctor will be with me shortly but after 8 minutes it ends the call and I can’t get back in the appointment. I have called the support team and they recommended shutting down the app and restarting again and this still didn’t work. I have the most up-to-date app version and also iOS software and still doesn’t work. I wish I had been warned the first time I called the support team so I wouldn’t have wasted my time booking more appointments and going through the same process again. Had I know I would have just gone to my normal GP and waited those 20 min in the waiting room, knowing for sure I would be seen. Great idea of a service, so hopefully the app gets sorted out soon.

When you are unwell, a lot of the time it takes so much effort to have to go visit a GP. This app is a great way to see your GP almost anytime you want and cuts straight to the point with no time wasting due to the length of the appointments. In my experience i found the GP I saw incredibly helpful, willing to listen and took my issue very seriously. Which is really what any of us want when we feel we have a problem, to be taken seriously.
