Twinkl Spelling has been designed by a team of lead teachers and senior practitioners with extensive experience and expertise in the teaching and delivery of phonics and spelling programs within both UK and International Schools. Twinkl Spelling currently contains 160 Spelling tests drawn from the contents of the DFES Phonics Program Letters & Sounds, as well as the English National Curriculum; and contains over 1400 spelling words! These tests can be manually assigned in adult led mode or children can play freely and progress through levels in progressive mode - the app's two main usage modes. Target tests which contain words that children have spelt incorrectly are also collated by the app and are automagically added to a targets test which helps to reinforce areas which children might benefit from more practise in. Finally, a suprise test mode is available which includes a variant of the classic 'Whack A Mole' game where children have to press the correct letters-on-spellephants in order to spell a given word. Children's achievements are celebrated through the collection of 'Spellephants' (34 in total) which are awarded based on achievement criteria visible to adults. Twinkl Spelling uses a progressive method for spelling based on best practice, whereby during the initial stages of the game children practice spelling words phonetically, before moving onto spelling words using letters. Children practice spelling either using drag and drop or by clicking on the correct phoneme, and then move onto using a simple alphabetically ordered keyboard. Up to 30 users with unique avatars and favourite colours can be created and managed. The app works fully offline and does not require you to sync/share data or expose a child user to any online features. Each spelling test, can conveniently be exported as a PDF, and statistics are available for each spelling test; showing words which the child got correct, and the words incorrectly spelt (including the child's attempt at the word).
