TIME Immersive

I very much wanted to love this. Unfortunately after playing around with it for 20 minutes, I’m a little bummed. The imaging, and the mechanics of the AR are awesome (although it does crash my iPad Pro if I move too quickly). John Knoll is one of my heroes, and that side of things is up to his usual standards. However, the app development team really let the project down. It should ask you about notifications once, then never again -instead, if you decline their marketing, it asks you every time you start. Also, it shows the Jimmy John’s pop up every time. The app does use lots of battery, but perhaps that is to be expected given the real time AR going on. Finally, I couldn’t get the audio to play on my iPad Pro. In summary, the initial wow factor of looking around the lunar surface or the capsule quickly wears off and is replaced by mild frustration. I don’t want to seem ungrateful for a cool effort and project. Thanks Smithsonian, ILM, John Knowll , and Jimmy John’s for trying. But it feels like somebody pinched pennies along the way, and instead of saving some money on development they wasted whatever was spent.

The app burns the battery really quickly. The app is okay, but not worth the battery drain. The only cool feature is the 3D flat surface, but the pilot feature isn’t that cool. All you can see is the cockpit of a plane and the background moves occasionally.

Is it really the real thing? Of course not. But having sat in front of our black and white TV, and joining in the anxiety of Mission Control as the seconds ticked by, this app DOES bring back the experience. What a wonderful teaching tool for our youngest generation!! Kudos to TIME for bringing such a pivotal moment in history to life!! Kay A.

Ran the app the first time and only time and it ran my battery from the mid eighties to 25 in a few minutes. The phone got very warm from the intense drain.

Fun walking around and exploring the landing through AR. FYI. Works great on my iPhone XR, crashes on my older iPad even though it is running iOS 12
