The Long Siege

A great 3 match game. I don't usually play these for very long but this one has held my attention. I love the mix of realtime strategy and match 3. The progression is great as well. I actually want to play to progress. With me. Exception, the quests are needed to progress your level and in turn progress you special unlocks. There is a quest to "recover health crystals using The Healer" and the first one was difficult while the second is almost impossible. You have to recover 2 or your 3 crystals. But the mobs hit so hard that your hp is gone within seconds of their arrival. So now I'm not actually playing the game, instead I am trying to create a scenario where I can complete this quest. It is very frustrating. The other quests fit in nicely with the game design so I can complete while also attempting to complete the levels. This quests is counterintuitive and I can't attempt to win the level and complete at the same time.

This game's aesthetics and implementation are great, but the bosses seem to either crash me or die quickly at near-random. This was something that could be overcome by slogging through all the enemies before each boss attempt, effectively farming gold. However, at the end of the game there's a boss-rush, making the randomness compound, along with all units being maxed by that point. It feels so sad to delete this game after playing through everything but the very last bit, but this is just too frustrating to try again. Still, the rest of the game was enjoyable.

I love Match 3 games (this one is a "slide the row or column," rather than a "swap the blocks" style game) and this one has a great game lurking under a picky performance. The art work is wonderful, the idea of tower defense is fine...but the controls are so picky. I wish the matches "clicked" into place a little bit. Instead, I find myself moving the tiles and having them be, ooooh, just a little too far right, now just a little too far left, oops, a little too far right...it's very frustrating. If the developers could adjust this a bit, I think the game would be greatly improved. It would also be nice to be able to move blocks while the blocks are settling into place...I find myself waiting too much to make a move.

I am not generally a fan of match 3 games but this is one exception. I am really enjoying the game with the RPG elements and real time. There is something here for everyone whether a hardcore gamer or pick up and play for a few mins. Great work devs and I hope to see future updates! Also for all of those complaining that it doesn't work on their devices and thus giving the game a bad review...seriously?! The specs are clearly indicated under the details section so maybe check that out before buying next time. Some people have put hard work and effort into this and should not be penalized because of ignorance. Smh...

The game punishes guessing at throwing lines of tiles and hoping something matches. If you miss, and wouldn’t match anything on the bounce-back, the line of tiles will not go back to its original position, but go one, or even two, spots backwards. While I understand this might be a desirable game mechanic from the designer’s point of view, the matching function is very picky AT TIMES. I haven’t figured out what makes it REALLY picky about the final position. You need to be almost EXACTLY on the match, or it will punish you. Of course, the times I notice are when it really counts. I’ve only played a couple hours, and this mechanic has already cost me a dozen losses. It’s... frustrating, which is not something a game should strive for.
