The problems with this app spoil it for me: 1. Credit does not go on your card straight away so you cannot use it to avoid queues for machines if you have run out of credit and are about to make your journey. I can go into any supermarket and make an instant payment but this seems beyond Oysters capabilities. There are no excuses for not making payments immediate. 2. App keeps signing out so that is yet another password to remember but is timed so that it signs you out just as you are about to put credit on. This is not for ‘security’ as is claimed by TFL : my iphone already has security on it - even banking apps don’t do this...but that does not stop TFL whining about it when mentioned in reviews (JUST GET THE SIGNOUT PROBLEM FIXED) 3, Every few months it will sign out and refuse the password until you delete it and re download. I will start by saying that TFL have an almost exemplar record in embracing accessibility, diversity and inclusion... Everything from audio announcements on busses, trains and tubes to assistance for people who have disabilities at the point of need where possible and in most cases... TFL have been leaders in the notion of “Turn up and go” whih has meant that we as people with disabilities can travel independently and with confidence. So I waited with bated breath as I downloaded the Oyster app from the app store, knowing that as soon as the app was downloaded, I’d be able to interact with it using the native screen reader on IOS, Voiceover... Urm, no, oh dear! Absolutely no access at all. Nothing is spoken from the opening screen onwards so, no way of interacting with the app at all. The only upside to this is that at least its not part accessible which is worse but, this is not a compliment and not a position that tFL should find themselves in. Please can we have an accessible version of this app as soon as the next point release and can TFL reasure its many thousands of VIPs (Visually Impaired People) that accessibility and thereby, inclusion will be front and centre of all app development as part of the general build roadmap... Thank you!

Update: can no longer top up your oyster card which was the only piece of (former) use. Trash. Update2: appears to be them not taking amex any longer. Sigh. Update3: now appears they invalidated old passwords and the reset page is blank. Good thing tfl mostly outsources if they really can get nothing right on their own. Insanely greedy about personal information when signing up. (Why does it even need me to sign up, all it really needs is my ouster card number?) When registering a credit card for top-ups, you need to type in your full address manually, though for 99% of users it’ll probably be the same address it asked for (see above). A recent update made it forget account details, and it seems to log you out regularly. Seems like what a company used to having a monopoly might design. Given how flaky the station touch pads are, there should be some sort of dispute process for missing touch-outs. Even using the location services. Shows different (and non-coherent) charge histories than the webapp. Of ypu have an issue with your oyster card and/or their app – including them overcharging you – youvan set up a Twitter account, a facebook account or call their party line. They have no interest in hearing from you in other ways – it’s really very kafka-esque. This app is generally failing at every opportunity. I wish zero stars was an option.

I was redirected to the app from the tfl webpage when I was trying to get an update on a bus route and when it would resume normal service. I downloaded the app and the clicked on journey planner only to be directed back to the website on my browser away from the app. This app can be so much more then looking at ones oyster account but they haven't even bothered. It's really bad when apps like this are launched without being well just MORE, considering for instance Citymapper offer. This is TFL, everyone is getting this information from them, you would think they of all organisations would have first hand access to a huge amount of travel data. For instance I would like to type in a bus route and find out if it's taking diversions and when normal service will be resumed. Notifications on if my underground and DLR routes is having issues, etc. In this days and age you can't have apps like this.

This app is utterly useless. Despite updating my Oystercard using the app last night, this morning it wouldn't let me through until I updated my Oystercard. Assuming I'd made some sort of mistake last night, I updated it, and went through. It then told me I had a £6.50 negative balance. When I got to my destination I was told this must be because I didn't have an update on the Oystercard. I asked him to look closer, he checked it with his reader, and told me I now had *two* travelcards on it. So it had charged me twice, but still thought I had a negative pay-as-you-go balance in it, which I still had to pay. He told me he gets this all the time, none of the people who work for TFL trust the app, and in fact it was him who told me it was '...not fit for purpose'. (He also told me it would be almost impossible to get any sort of refunds, but that's as much to do with TFL as it is the app...)
