Concerned User User Beware!
Feb 06, 2018
This application tracks the users location before work, during work, on breaks and lunches and can relay that data to your employer.
Make sure your company releases the proper disclosures covering the full functionality of this application. Moreover, employees in California are not required to download TempBuddy as it breaks California GPS tracking laws; pen code 637.7 and is simply an invasion on ones privacy and can not be required by employers.
(If you work for NPM Staffing in California
this application in NOT mandatory nor can it be mandatory)

We wanted clear up any confusion regarding what/when the app tracks location of workers. We do not track the workers location at at time OTHER THAN the exact moment you press "check in" or "check out" on the app. That is the only time the app pings your location to show you are onsite at the location specified in the job order. Other than those two pings, the app does not have any ability (as it's not set up to do so) to track your location outside of those two moments. Also, you still control whether or not you want to allow the app on your phone to even ping your location at check in/out. If you turn off location permissions in your settings the app cannot track you even at check in/out so you have full control over that.
Lastly, regarding the law you specified, that is specific to continual GPS tracking of an individual without their knowledge and beyond their control. However, regarding apps such as TempBuddy that is up to user discretion by either allowing location permissions or not. It's the same as most other apps on your phone. Let's say you have The Weather Channel app, it will automatically ask you to allow location tracking but you can choose whether to allow it to track you or not. The TempBuddy app is exactly the same. As mentioned above, it does not continually track, it only pings location if both these criteria are met: A) you've allowed location permissions for the app and B) you then use the app to check in/out. It operates the same as if you allowed any other app on your phone to "use location while using the app".
Each Staffing Agency can set guidelines for use. It doesn't mean that you are required to allow location permissions for the app but they can require that you at least USE THE APP in order to get work from them. However you can always turn off location permissions for the app and still use it to check in/out without it being able to ping your location as you have full control over that setting on your own phone.
Hope this helps clear things up a bit for you. If you have any further questions you can contact us from the chat bubble on your app or our web help page.
