TellMelamine

Tellspec's TellMelamine technology lets anyone in the supply chain, including parents of infants, to test powdered baby formula for adulteration with melamine. Melamine is sometimes intentionally added to baby formula to disguise poor quality. In 2017, melamine was deemed by the World Health Organization to be a cause of kidney failure. Our technology greatly reduces the costs and time associated with testing baby formula in a traditional chemical lab. Testing is done on the spot in seconds and is non-destructive. This technology can detect the moderate-to-high levels of melamine typically associated with deliberate adulteration, but not trace amounts from accidental contamination. Please note that intentional adulteration with melamine typically uses concentrations that are higher than 2%. Our technology will detect those levels but can not be used to test for lower concentrations, which typically occur with unintentional contamination. Because the testing is quick, cheap, and non-destructive, many samples of formula may be tested, rather than just one or two, as would be typical if laboratory testing were done.
