Teen Counseling

My 16 year old son was going through an angsty time, showing some aggression towards other kids, acting out and got in trouble with the police. The first thing I did was call a therapist for help, and stumbled across Teen Counseling. This is going to sound like a paid for add, but it really did seem easy. After you tick off the issues you’re concerned about, and describe your situation, you are matched with a therapist. My son was a bit resistant at first but knew he needed some help so he agreed to do it. His description to his friend of the therapist was something like, “He looks like a teacher, kind of nerdy, but he’s really cool to talk to.”, and followed that up with referring his friend to the same guy! I think that says a lot! So suffice it to say that I’m really pleased with the experience. I can see a difference with my son already and it’s only been a month.

I set our profile up for my daughter using the website. It was recommended on a parenting podcast, and I’ve been wanting to get my 16-year-old some professional help, but she is involved in so many things (high school, vocational school, the after school clinicals for her training 2 nights a week-granted , they’re optional, but necessary to complete the program , and she works 20-25 hours/week). So we really something that would work around her schedule. We’ve done in person counseling before, but that was before she became so busy. Now it would be next to impossible to get her to and from appointments. I was told that they would send me an email or text message one day before billing my account. I didn’t intend on committing until I had done a little more research. My own fault for putting my banking information down I guess. Anyways, go to my online banking app... and what do you know?!?!?!!! They’ve already taken the $65 from my account. No big deal. We just won’t pay a bill on time. Or I’ll reschedule my oil change. Maybe we’ll just not eat a couple days. If that’d been all the $ in my account, I would be completely screwed. Hopefully, they will take my request for a refund seriously. Judging from other reviews, I’m not going to get my hopes up.

I have never before written a review for anything but I am just so annoyed that I need to. I am a teen who was super excited to finally meet my counselor and finally just start talking to someone professionally. I filled out the whole questionaire, my mom set up the payments on a Tuesday afternoon. I matched with a counselor, whom I read her whole bio and I was super excited to get to start working with because she seemed like a perfect match. A couple of days go by and she has not reached out to me in anyway. My mom, confused emails her and she says that “she is not taking in any new clients and will get us set up with a new counselor asap.” My mom then replies back with a little bit of feedback saying that the program should only set teens up with counselors that are available. She replies that she forgot to turn her availability off and that it is her fault and again would get me setup with someone asap. It has been days, with still nothing changing. My mom has paid for a full week with me having no counselor. I am very disappointed and annoyed.

I’ve never written a review before but it frustrates me that there are so many bad reviews on this! I have been using this since October of 2018 - about 7 months ago. At that time, there was a LOT of bad controversy about better help after Shane dawson was sponsored by them. This made me skeptical, but I felt inclined to at least try it for myself anyways after watching a video with a in depth good review on it. I was in the worst mindset I had ever been when I began consoling. The lady I got paired with was a perfect match right away. She’s quite responsive and I feel there’s a mutual trust. Before this I was terrified to do therapy young because my sister had a terrible experience at a nearby center. I couldn’t be more happy to do therapy online. I genuinely look forward to my sessions. She helped get me out of a really bad place.

So it’s not free (obviously) but it is helpful. It is just like having a therapist, but perfect for those with extreme anxiety that would prefer to just type out their thoughts to a qualified professional. The therapist I was assigned even checks in throughout the week (something you don’t get with other services). The survey at the beginning pairs you with someone who they think you would do well with, but if you two don’t click there is the option to change. <-Super thoughtful idea. I have been able to really see where my brain is stabbing me in the back with this app 😂. I hope if you’re looking at reviews then you try this app, because truthfully if you didn’t want help you wouldn’t have scrolled through the reviews ;)
