Stocard - Loyalty Cards Wallet

I do like the app and it has been of great benefit to me, as I do not have to carry so many Loyalty Cards with me. It is true though that in the UK, it does not work with Boots Loyalty Scanners, as a couple of Boots Stores Managers informed me that their In-Store scanners do NOT work with Third party apps. However, being a persistent person, I persevered with my other two LOYALTY CARDS (Sainsburys’& Tesco’s) and discovered that one of the KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL SCANNING was to give the STOCARD app permission to access your camera (not just for taking a pic of the front and back of your card to store on the app, should you so wish, BUT also), so that it could adjust the brightness of the front screen of your iPhone when it’s time for a Scanner to read the details of your Loyalty card. AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, I discovered that traditional scanners can NOT read the details and ONE NEEDS TO REQUEST A HANDHELD SCANNER (they’re more technologically capable) to be used to read one’s Loyalty Card Details off one’s phone! - I’ve found this last step in particular works again & again without fail, unless there is NO HANDHELD SCANNER or it has stopped working. In that case, one’s details need to be manually entered at the Customer Services Desk on presentation of one’s validated receipt. Thanks for reading.

So far so good. I’ve just started to use Stocard after seeing it recommended on The Martin Lewis Road Show. Set up could not have been easier, all I had to do was scan most of my loyalty cards and my number for each one was there. 3 of my cards did not have bar or QR codes so I had to enter them manually. I’ve used Stocard on my iPhone in Tesco and Costa and been credited with the appropriate points. My wallet is now considerably slimmer and lighter because I have fewer cards in it. I would definitely recommend this free app. 24th February 2018. Since posting my original review I have had the opportunity to use Stocard several times. Some stores technology is not up to date. Nevertheless I have been able to use Stocard and the assistant has just been required to tap my loyalty card number into their till. I no longer have to care 10 different cards in my wallet and often I don’t even have to take my wallet out as I am able to use Stocard and Apple Pay. Stocard is a fantastic addition to my life and I love it.

It is a great app, very useful most of the time. The only issue I have is that every time you open the it asked to connect to a wifi network. Frustrating when all you want to do is quickly scan your card and pay, but having to wait for it to pop up to cancel or going to scan and it pops up blocking the barcode so you then need to mess about cancelling the pop up wastes time. I appreciate it is in my Wi-fi settings, but don’t see why I need to adjust my phone setting to make using your app easier. I know stores offer Wi-fi and it pops up automatically for this but unless I connect and save details for every stores Wi-fi everywhere I go in the country prior to using your app, that’s just more frustration unnecessarily needed, especially for an app designed to be convenient. There is no setting or option to this turn off independently to my usual Wi-fi settings. Which I would rather not adjust for this one app.

I have just downloaded this app because it's a great idea but the mixed reviews makes me doubtful about its usefulness, particularly as the positive reviews are short on hard facts, and the negative reviews have named and shamed the IT illiterate stores and staff, so clearly know what they are talking about. Both the app developers and reviewers should name the places where it works/does not work, including name and location to help others assess before downloading. Or the developer could maintain a viewable directory of store locations where users have confirmed it works. The developers should refrain from making glib responses to reviewers such as "you went to stores that have old technology", when the reviewer named Tesco, Sainsbury, Boots as the places of failure- These make up >70% of UK high street stores and the most relevant, if it doesn't work at these popular locations then the app is not ready or fit for use for its intended purpose, making it illegal to sell without refund guarantee. The stores of course are also seriously at fault, not least because of their ignorance and lack of cooperation in the digital age, and almost acting anti-competitively by not allowing app developers to offer this service as an alternative to the stores' bulky plastic. Perhaps case law to be made here, as it's in the public's interest for the app to be allowed to work, and stores to cooperate.

Excellent to use simple to add cards too and saves the wallet from exploding with cards Having read some of the previous reviews I’ve been surprised at the comments of not being able to use particularly at such place as Tesco, Sainsburys etc. Personally I have used this app in both places and never had an issue with either the tills or the self services kiosks The only time I had a problem was at Holland & Barrett and that was simply because there scanner didn’t seem to work and so they simply used their keypad and typed in my account number. It’s been a very useful app as my wife and daughter have cards for stores that I rarely go to Boots and other cosmetic companies but I just have there cards so on the rare occasions that I go in to those stores they get the benefit of the points. So generally speaking, from beefeater to odeon to Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose I’ve never had a problem, my bigger problem was having 30+ cards in my wallet and still not being able to find the one I wanted, now with Stocard it’s just one app and all my cards are on view with my most commonly used ones held in the top area. Very good app, easy to use and so far never lost out on my points.
