Sky Baron: War of Planes

Still flying first aircraft, the Halberstadt. Agree with another player’s review that being restricted to a limited forward view from cockpit severely reduces authenticity. Seeing enemy red circles dancing around does help track opponents’ relative locations. May be realistic to be taken out by parts and pieces of destroyed enemy planes, but would be nice for this to be a bit less frequent duel outcome! Good game but still miss Red Ace Squadron. Now far more experienced but same requests for improvement. Too often crash with incoming opponents since closer rate is perhaps too realistic. Ask developers to increase printing font size as plane descriptions/histories require a magnifying glass. Night missions are unrealistic and player has no reference to judge closer rates -of course, WW I aviators had no fluorescent circles to judge friend from foe! Certainly need > 30 degrees field of vision since opponents can come in from too many blind angles.

This is the best aviation game I have ever played for mobile, and I especially love how it is historically inspired in that it tells the story of the Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. Contrary to what many Americans might believe about the man, Manfred von Richthofen was not a cold, heartless killer, but a very honorable and patriotic man who showed honor, respect, and compassion to even his enemies. With that said, the story of how he started flying a red airplane is part of his unique story, and a cool bonus to the game would be if we could unlock the red plane during the storyline, instead of having to purchase it. But even if you play without the iconic red plane, the gameplay is still just as amazing.

It's a good start, this game. But the game doesn't seem to accurately model performance and armament differences between the Halberstadt D.II, and the faster, more powerfully armed Fokker E.V and Pfalz D.XII. In the real warplanes, the Fokker Triplane, E.V and Pfalz had two LMG O8 machine guns, but in the game, you only get one machine gun no matter what fighter you choose to play. That is unfortunate, because some missions are more challenging than they should be with only the low firepower the game allows. It's also impossible in the game to do many aerobatic maneuvers that the planes would be able to do in WWI. The simulator doesn't give you more maneuverability with the Fokkers and less with the Pfalz and Halberstadt like it should. I'd also like to see the game allow replays with a point of view outside the plane. Perhaps that's too much to ask of an iOS game, but a Mac desktop/laptop version could probably do a good job of it.

This is a great game! Awesome graphics, detail, and the music really sets the mood. I can’t speak to all of details of the planes. Sure there might be some discrepancies, but if you like WW I, biplane dogfighting, and want a little escape, this is sure to please. My only wishlist item as an Anglophile would be to be able to fly more British planes. Keep up the great work. I can’t wait to see more enhancements!

I've been searching for a game like this. Red Baron 3D was fantastic and I play it still, and this game is like that wonderful game but on the smart phone. I was hooked instantly to this game. Great job to the creators of this game!! I love this era of history, and i can say with confidence that I'll be a consistent player of this game
