Assess your risk for dementia Sharp is a service that helps you assess your future risk of dementia. Sharp provides an assessment comprising demographic, health and lifestyle questions, together with a set of cognitive tests. Upon completion, you will receive a Brain Health Score indicating how healthy you are relative to your dementia risk. The Brain Health Score reflects your risk of developing dementia in the next ten years and is based on a machine learning algorithm developed using data provided by the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center . Lifestyle scores for diet, physical activity, sleep, stress & mood and mental stimulation will be provided upon completion alongside a list of risk factors. Dementia is a term used to describe a group of symptoms including memory loss, confusion, mood changes and eventually difficulty with day-to-day tasks (ARUK). Although dementia mainly affects older people, it is not a normal part of ageing. Dementia is the long-term health challenge of the century. Worldwide, there are around 50 million people with dementia, with the number of patients affected set to triple by 2050 (WHO Report, 2020). In 2019, dementia ranked as the 7th leading cause of death. Women are disproportionately affected. Globally, 65% of deaths from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia are women (WHO Report, 2020). AD and other dementias are in the medical top 10 causes of death without a cure available (NHS). Focusing on early detection and prevention measures of AD and other dementias is key. - If a diagnosis is made early enough there is a higher chance that interventions and lifestyle improvements will be effective. - If prevention methods are introduced early enough, there is a chance of reducing the prevalence of dementia at the population level. In a recent academic article (Livingston et al., 2020), it was suggested that modifying 12 risk factors might prevent or delay up to 40% of dementia cases. This includes physical activity, smoking, social isolation and alcohol consumption. Our mission is to save millions of lives in the next decade by detecting dementia years earlier than current methods and to extend quality of life by several years through the introduction of lifestyle improvements. WHY SHARP? - Monitoring health conditions can help you understand your risk of dementia. - Understand how good your lifestyle habits are and what you can do to improve them. - Learn about the risk factors associated with cognitive decline and dementia. - Contribute to SharpTx’s mission of saving lives and improving our accuracy in assessing risk for dementia. Each assessment helps us to improve the service and achieve these goals. Are you ready to join? Together we can reduce the impact of dementia. Together we care.
