Shapr3D CAD modeling

Very easy to get to grips with. I used autocad when I was at college. And find Shapr3D much more user friendly without a doubt. If I did need to use this in a real professional fashion I would perhaps go for it. Their video tutorials are very handy but maybe a little too quick if following step by step on another device whilst drawing on the pro. But right now with only 3 to 5 designs a year for personal cabinet making projects it becomes unaffordable. Shame as I am quite keen But I guess autodesk is around the 3k mark. So if you compare maybe it’s reasonable for a professional if the capacities are the same? I tried to do the chair with the free version. But for some reason the Groups button isn’t available in the free version,or am I missing something? Couldn’t find a way to erase the whole sketch and start again either. So because of the price unfortunately. It’s a 3 from me. I even went and bought an Apple Pencil only to then realise that the free version was quite restricted.

However, after an update I can only have two and not three designs in a free version like it was before. That was one greedy and ugly move!!! And no- for people like me who design something from time to time- it will not make me to upgrade to pro. More likely I will look elsewhere because practices like aforementioned reduction in usability is just wrong. Happy life. I hope that greed will get you done at some point. Oh- and I didn’t notice any mention of that in ‘what’s new’ which makes you look even worse. Update: thanks for the response. Yes I feel that way. I had 3 projects that I’ve been working on. Now I have to decide which one to delete. How would you feel if someone did something like that to you? And with next update you’ll just leave me with one? And then zero? This is just wrong. If you could offer a one time purchase for private use then maybe I’d buy it for better resolution of my prints, but subscription makes no sense to me with maybe 10 simple projects a year. Shame.

Not really usable for real design work. The lack of features is so limiting. I set myself the task of making a pen holder for my Apple Pencil, so I don’t have to carry a pen as well as Apple Pencil. Pretty neat usability test. I can then gauge how useful and speedy the app is compared to desktop stuff. I use Inventor on Desktop professionally. You cannot tell it to add an extrusion that intersects another object. It only subtracts. Want to add a curve that follows the contours of an existing object on an offset plane? No. Use a defined dimension in another dimension. No Want unequal chamfers and rounding. No. And most of all. The snapping on the Apple Pencil drawing is terrible. I cannot get it to align curves properly, and I keep thinking if only I had a mouse I could align this point. Can’t add constraints. Can’t inspect/measure. Essentially I rage quitters trying to make a simple pencil holder because I have to change the entire way I do CAD. So, it is great for new to CAD people, but not me set in my ways.. So why is it 30 a month? Should be like 5 a month as it’s rather feature limited. I’m not expecting stress analysis, like in inventor, but a level of professional usability would be nice. Edit: 1 star given back because they respond quickly, even to irate me. Still should have a 5 a month subscription with only stl export for 3D printer enthusiasts.

I’m still getting used to it but I think it is brilliant. I get stuck now and again, but the tutorials are good. I’m trying to draw my house so I can see what an extension would look like. The hardest thing is getting the dimensions right. I have to remember to put things on their own layer and to lock items so they don’t move with other elements. I haven’t tried to print or export, but great for getting your ideas down. I think you only get two goes for free, which means you either export them in some way and delete or overwrite one of them. My next go will be to build a hedgehog hut! I can’t stress how good this app is, hours of fun and frustration learning it. But we all learn better from our mistakes! Thanks to the developer. As a pro cad user on Mac and pc this is a very clever and intuitive app, thumbs up to the developers who built this. I’m only a few days in and keen to learn more but interested to see if I could build this into my workflow. Cad tends to require many hours say in front of a large screen, iPads tend to be on the go, short burst and bad posture. The pricing still sits at £30pcm which does feel pricey. I understand development of apps like these are very costly but monthly payments for apps is starting to annoy me and eventually just ends up being expensive. This would would make a superb desktop app and with workflow between them you’d kill the market! If it stays iPad only I wouldn’t give up my day tools just yet. Well done though guys. Amazing job.
