UV radiation is the major cause of skin cancer, as well as sunburn, tanning and premature ageing. But the problem is none of our senses can detect UV. It’s not like sunlight, that we can see, or the sun’s heat, which we can feel. As a result, we usually don’t realize how strong UV is until it has already damaged our skin. seeUV uses local forecast data to display an augmented reality animation to help you understand the strength of UV radiation. Red rays simulate what strong UV may look like, while green rays simulate low UV levels. Over time, UV damage causes wrinkling, spots and blotchiness. seeUV includes a face mask feature to simulate what this damage may look like. Remember, UV damage is preventable by using good sun protection - slip on covering clothing, slop on sunscreen, slap on a broad-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses. For more information about skin cancer prevention and sun protection visit sunsmart.com.au Disclaimer: The application is intended to help educate about the presence of UV radiation. This is achieved by simulating the presence of UV radiation through an animation. It does not use the camera to measure or visualise UV radiation entering the atmosphere. UV level and temperature data is returned from the Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. UV data is only available for locations in Australia. seeUV is not a diagnostic tool. The information in this app is for educational purposes only.
