The Ride CATS app provides a GPS system that allows you to see where you are standing relative to the closest bus stop. It would also have you believe that it tracks the buses via GPS, so that you know exactly where the next bus is. However, that is not the case. It gives you an estimate based on where the bus SHOULD be, and it leaves GPS pins at the stops where the buses are meant to be at the time, based on the schedule of the day. However, should a bus be running late (which is often) the information automatically becomes useless. My first use of this app had me waiting an extra fifteen minutes for my bus to reach me, after the app stated that the bus had already passed my stop. The CATS drivers are fantastic, or at least most of the ones I've encountered. I know many by name, as I use the bus anywhere from 2 to 6 times a day. But the HQ's customer service is nonexistent, and when it does exist, is downright disorderly. CATS needs to up their game.

I would have rated it lower if I could have, because it’s worse than just “doesn’t work”; instead it gives you the impression that it DOES work, so it’s incredibly misleading. Its website claims that it tracks buses in real time via GPS - that’s simply a lie. Additionally, I’ve had the times change on me multiple times over the course of a minute or two, so it much not be “scheduled time” either. The zoom function simply does not work. And If you select a specific route, the app tries to go to a website and then crashes. Every time. The feedback function doesn’t even work. It requires you to enter a route number to provide any feedback but gives you no option to select a route. Facebook and phone feedback have both been pointless. Do not waste your tome with this app.

This hasn't worked correctly since Feb 2014. And complaining to CATS via email or their website doesn't do a thing. Horrible customer service, CATS! Update: received a message they were looking into it, but 6 weeks later still broken. Wish I could give zero stars for app and service! Updated: new app has potential but still useless as is. The GPS arrival is never correct if bus is late. Still horrible! You can’t even find a bus stop schedule if you don’t know the exact name of the stop

I have been riding the 62x and now the 20 bus for almost 20 years. And there have been plenty of 20 degree mornings when I had no idea when the bus was coming. So the app in its present form is a godsend to me. One person's non-intuitive mess is another's piece of cake. I figured it out the first day. Is it perfect? No. Is it a lot better than no app if you're a bus rider? Absolutely.

This app is horrible. While it claims to be based on real time GPS tracking, there is no way that is possible. The app is frequently wrong by 10+ minutes on my normal route, often saying that the bus just passed my stop while I’m standing there, only to have it arrive 10 minutes later. There is really no excuse not to have real time GPS tracking on city busses. Every Uber, electric scooter, rental bike, etc. in the city has this now basic technology.
