Potassium maintains body cell structure and function, and is essential for normal nerve, muscle (including the heart), and kidney function. Too much potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia) can occur as a result of renal failure or use of potassium-retaining medications, eg, ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics, NSAIDs. It can then impair heart contraction and function and cause muscle pain and weakness. Too little potassium in the blood (hypokalemia) causes fatigue, muscle cramps and weakness, constipation, and impairs heart contraction and function. Too little potassium in the body increases blood pressure and weakens bones. This app allows you to control your daily potassium intake. For example, you may have been advised to restrict intake if you have kidney disease or are on potassium-retaining medications. Alternatively you may wish to increase intake because this can help lower high blood pressure or you may be losing excess potassium as a result of vomiting or diarrhea or using thiazide or loop diuretics. Watch your progress towards your target daily intake every day in real-time as you use the keypad or speech recognition if available (touch the microphone icon) to record your food and beverage intake. You can also view your progress over time on your Month view dashboard, and export your food diaries into a spreadsheet for your own information or to share with your healthcare provider. Apple's HealthKit functionality is integrated in the app's user interface so you can share your data with Apple's Health app. You can also synchronize the app with all your Apple devices.
