Pause: Prayer & Meditation

HIGHLY suggest this app. If you are a believer who struggles with chronic anxiety or are just struggling with extra stress in your life right now given current unknowns... Check this out! Meditation, I think, is becoming more accepted in Christian communities... but sometimes the word turns people off “We don’t want your new age crap!! Holy water! Holy water!” 😉 I’ve personally tried some Jon Cabat Zinn guided mediations and they did WONDERS for me. Literally talked me down from panic attack to breathing and thinking normal. This?! I Love it even more. And! It is definitely a “safe place” for those who who are hesitant with the whole mediation thing. If you’ve been hesitant about mediating, but have been suggested in therapy or by your naturopath to try meditation for your anxiety or depression - try this. It’s a guided mediation led by our brother in Christ John Eldredge. He invites you to pause and focus on the present moment and lean into the Presence of God for Peace and Comfort and to give Him total control. You start with a 1 minute meditation and after you’ve done that 3 times throughout 2 days or so, it unlocks a 3 minute, and so on and so forth until you reach 15 to 20 minutes. So! It’s super slow going; non-intrusive. As the minutes get longer, more opportunities to invite healing into broken circumstances are introduced. Amazing. Absolutely amazing, you guys. Give it a go. Yes, life is hectic. Yes, I am remarkably distracted, as are most in this digital age. I have failed to hear the voice of God for what has felt like...years. Yet, this app brings me home. The daily (multiple times per day) exercise has helped heal my union with God. There has yet to be a time, after running through a pause, that I don’t leave feeling full and whole. My daughters (ages 6 & 3) have watched as I reconnect with God. They love it, ask for it even. It’s helped me communicate with them what union with God looks like. And...it’s helped heal my marriage as I invite my wife into intimacy with Jesus and I’ve watched as her heart softens. Every believer needs the simplicity of this exercise. Sometimes we just need someone to gently bring us back into communion with the living God. Give it a try. Let your heart go. It can help transform you, fill you, focus you, if you’ll let it.

I really like this app. You could say that I’ve been a “pause app evangelist” since I’ve been talking to so many people about it. Overall it is a fantastic tool to reconnect with Jesus throughout the day or week. My only dislike is the lack of options. Yes, you can choose 1, 3, 5, or 10 mins to meditate, but it would be nice ( & helpful) to have a few different prompts to go through instead of the same one over and over. I also would appreciate having more music options. The music definitely helps center me and keep me focused, but sometimes it just doesn’t jive with what I’m mediating on. A few more options would really make this a great app instead of just a good one.

This is my first review of anything. Ever! I absolutely love this app. I’ve read some of John Eldredge’s books and when our church did a study on his latest book, “get your life back”, I of course bought the book and downloaded this app. My one complaint is when I’m doing the 10 minute pause, the break to select “guidance”, “inner healing”, or “worship” is a little distracting. Maybe on a newer version, make three different 10 minute pauses. One for each selection. Other than that, this app has been a true blessing. I love the reminder throughout my day to just stop and give it all to God. Even if it’s for just one, three, five, or ten minutes.

What an amazing gift this app has been to my spiritual life. I had no idea I was pushing God out of my life by being too busy to spend time with Him. This practice of the 1, 3, 5, and 10 minute pauses has given God room to come back into me. I feel his presence when I take time to listen. I’ve used the app while at work between meetings. I’ve used it while taking a walk, while sharing time with my young children, with a co-worker friend that was grieving because of the loss of her friends husband. It brings the presence of God. Thanks to John and the Ransomed Heart ministry for creating this app and living it. We pray for you, for your families to be safe and preserved and prospered!
