Oxford Dictionary & Thesaurus

The ODE is highly useful and I value especially the cross referencing between related words, the inclusion of derivative data and the phonetic pronunciation backed up by an audio link to the word sounded. My only quibble is that in my early use the app switches between the word search function and services like word of the day. A high rating qualified only by a sense that the closer the interface is to straight search and find, the easier it is to use and that is not yet optimal for me. I am not sure also whether the fee I paid to upgrade the application resulted in the upgrade being automatically installed. Perhaps the details of operation on the Apple Store site could be enlarged upon or some additional messaging be added after the election to pay for the upgrade.

I bought this paying the full charge. Then this year it started crashing whenever I loaded it. Eventually, I deleted and reloaded it. Now they want me to pay again. I regard this as fraudulent. I raised it in Support and have received no answer. I see now you can pay extra to ensure reloads. That wasn’t an option when I bought it. They sold me the dictionary without such conditions. The fact they won’t even answer me in Support is disgraceful. I’m surprised that Oxford have allowed their name to be associated with this sort of practice. There has been no response from the developer. They’re not even prepared to defend their behaviour. I also paid for the Thesaurus add on and that’s vanished. On principle I’m going to another dictionary. Following the developer response (below) I tried everything they suggested and nothing worked. Restoring purchases just causes it to go into a permanent spin. My review stands. Your $30 can disappear any time.

This Oxford Dictionary app has played a significant role in my English learning process. There are a number of benefits gained from utilizing the app. One brief example is that you can develop your natural English thinking capability when using an online monolingual dictionary like this one. The app also allows me to learn a wide range of vocabularies, especially those belonging to the academic world list. Thank you Oxford for offering one of the most trustworthiest and wonderful e-learning apps. I hope the whole team and Oxford users all the best with their nonstop learning progress! 😊

I want to give this app 5 stars, I really do, because I respect Oxford as an institution. But the main feature I use on this app, the favourites feature, does not work sufficiently. It barely works at all, in fact. If you scroll down further than perhaps 20 words in your favourite section, and click on any given word, a completely random word will pop up. Without fail the word you click on will just not pop up, you have to go back to the search bar and type it in if you want the definition for that word. Not only that, but it forgets words that you’ve already favourited, and so duplicates appear in droves. I can’t be expected to remember every obscure or interesting word I add to favourites, so I expect an app to do so. But no, it doesn’t, it forgets all the time. This app is definitely not worth the money I paid. Fix it, please! I don’t want to have to rely on other dictionary apps, because I find that Oxford’s definitions are best.

The app Oxford Dictionary holds almost all the English words to know, updating every single time there’s a new word or meaning. It has a simple format that is easy to understand like where the search icon is, or where all your previous searches are. Even kids can use this to have a wider range of vocabulary since the definitions are easy to understand. I personally gave this a five star rating for all of the explanations above, trust me, no rip off comes when purchasing this app; that’s why when clicking on it it says ‘Most trusted dictionaries’.
