“On the trail of 1864” is your exciting companion on a tour to the 1864 battlefields. In two role plays you can experience how it was to be a Danish officer or private. The role plays are suitable for both young and old and hopefully lead to interesting discussions in the family. Besides, the app offers information on relevant 1864-topics. At Dannewerk you are a Danish officer and need to decide whether to retreat to Dybbøl or not. On an inspection some soldiers and civilians try to influence your decision. In 1864 Commander-in-chief de Meza decided to retreat to Dybbøl. What do you choose to do? In Dybbøl you are private in the regiment 22 which participates in the battle of Dybbøl, the assault, on 18 April. What do you attach value to – life or honor? Your good friend Jens accompanies you around and on the battlefield. Furthermore, he helps you to face the quandaries the soldiers had to face in 1864. Receive information about the many fortifications near Dannewerk and Dybbøl and hear about the bloody battles. Meet the ones who were in the war, and see where they are buried. Animations, photos and a map which is easy to understand illustrate the life in both the Danish and the Prussian army. The information are split up into several topics: Fortifications, battles, destinies, buildings, background, the soldiers’ life, “Life and honor” and “Retreat from Dannewerk”. The topics can be picked and dropped as you like. The app has been developed by the History Dybbøl Banke, the Dannewerk Museum and Combine. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
