This is the App of the popular NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheet (NEWIS). NEWIS is designed to be a "one stop" reference with links to national, state, and local websites and phone numbers that coastal residents can use before, during, and after weather emergencies. The goal of NEWIS is to help citizens increase their weather readiness as a part of NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation initiative. NOAA encourages citizens to make a plan for extreme weather, to stay informed by listening to the official weather forecast from NOAA's National Hurricane Center or local NOAA Weather Forecast Office, and to follow the direction of local emergency managers and law enforcement in the event of a life threatening situation. NEWIS was developed by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, a division of NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service.
