The Yamaha receiver is an excellent product, but their MusicCast speakers and technical support is dismal at best. The major problem I’ve experienced is audio stuttering on WiFi connections. Generally they could be fixed with a disconnect/reconnect but that technique is no more. Changing the speakers to WiFi-direct doesn’t help either. The Yamaha technical support team asks very short (less than one sentence) questions in response to my detailed problem tickets which describe my setup and issues w MusicCast and Alexa in detail, leading me to believe they’re just stalling for time. (If they really wanted to solve the problem wouldn’t they want the event logs from the app itself? They never requested them.) For anyone considering an investment into the new generation MusicCast (that STILL has yet to be released BTW), I would suggest reconsidering, particularly if you intend to use with TV audio as the lip sync is impossible to overcome even with Ethernet.

Update: updated to 1 Star. I have two receivers, a sound bar and two stand alone speakers.... Airplay cuts out so frequently you can’t even use it. Stuck with Bluetooth. Link plays at different times despite them being wired. Basically non of the claims they made which is why I bought so far into MusicCast work. Still great stand alone receivers... I have been running different Yamaha receivers for 20+ years but this attempt at multi room, airplay issues, is lacking BIG TIME! 1) make it so the blue led light on your speakers turns off when powered down. As it stands the WiFi light stays illuminated and therefor so does my room because it’s extremely bright. 2) since the last update I have had trouble with airplay, the stream suddenly sounds gargled and inaudible. It continues until the streaming service (one that is supported directly from Yamaha) is closed and reopened. On occasion I have to disconnect and reconnect the device.

Yamaha makes great stuff, then completely blows the part that allows people to easily set-up and use it. Having wasted hours trying to set up their AV receiver, I made the terrible mistake of getting a music cast speaker for another room. Bad, bad software with no instructions. Not intuitive, not self-explanatory, very un-mac like. Exists as a world separate from everything else on your iPhone or iPad, not integrated with any apps. You can access iTunes from inside it, but you cannot access this speaker from any of your other apps. If you value your time and good cheer, have someone else set it up for you, or better, skip it altogether and get something else. Not quite as bad as Sony’s utter distain for their customers and the mac world, but close.

App was fine. Now crashes on my iPad after August 10th update. Opens then crashes immediately every time. I built the iPad into my wall solely to control this app and the 9 MusicCast speakers I have around the house. Really need this fixed... Does anyone know if there is a way to revert back to the last version until a fix is released? I’ll update my 1 Star review when this is resolved. Update - Yamaha released an update to resolve this issue. Not only did it fix the issue, the app as a whole seems to be working better in regards to speakers syncing with my musiccast sound bar. 5 stars deserved for sure!

In 2019 people still don't understand the tech and don't know how to review... The app has low stars because people are looking to vent out for issues with speakers setup(really?) The app works with no glitches. Someone complained about volume regulation, which in my opinion is well thought out. The app is clear, and easy to navigate and works very well with the device. What I would like to see is integration with services like YT, Sound Cloud, Mix Cloud etc. Also I am dropping one star because of lack of control position within audio track (i mean on local storage, not streaming).
