Logos: Deep Bible Study

I have this app in daily use: I use it extensively to read books from my Logos Library - it's much more convenient to read a book sitting in an arm chair in the presence of my family rather than stuck in my study reading from of my desktop! I also use the app as a mobile source of different Bible versions with ready access to basic texts such as the ESV Study Bible, Matthew Henry, a Systematic Theology and a Bible Dictionary. It is now, after just a few months of use, to imagine life without it! Thank you Logos team for this app. I have yet to master searches in the Library - I often get what I'm not looking for....but I expect that skill will be honed in time! Later..... Still finding LOGOS great to have and use on my iPad. So convenient to have my Bible translations and commentaries for the Bible book I am studying to hand whenever needed! November 2018, after update. What has happened to LOGOS on my iPad? Highlighting is now quite impractical. Text selection is a nightmare. The pick lists have lost their clarity and ease of use. Writing a note now demands I use the iPad in portrait orientation whereas I always work in landscape. Not good. Please give us back the old functionality..... and the desktop version is taking some getting used to also after upgrading to version 8. Not at all happy. What customer research was carried out first before embarking on this wholesale change?

I invested heavily a few months ago in the Logos Platinum package. I can access the thousands of books through my Windows Notebook, my iMac and now my iPad through this excellent app. I have been a pastor for 42 years and this is the best stuff I have ever accessed. This app demonstrates the commitment of the Logos team to excellence in development and a servant heartedness in the kingdom. Dec 2017. The latest update from the Logos team has lifted the app into the realm of serious study. The ability to have side by side resources of one’s choice and make them split screen as well aids study immensely. You can download resources as well as use them via streaming. Now, if they can add the ability to edit documents it will be a dream come true for me.

I love logos! From the days when all the resources was on multiple disks! The Bible app is great, but the only thing that bugs me is if I want to highlight something and start by selecting a word (to expand to a passage) the app tries to do a lookup of the word which means you are stuck until the process is finished. It’s usually only a few seconds but if you want to highlight a few passages in different colours or emphasis it becomes irritating and tedious. I know you can do a direct highlight by dragging over but you cannot preselect your color or emphasis, it uses your last one. An always open, custom selection tray might be handy for a future development. Also, don’t keep to many resources open/synced up if you are not using them now. Even modern hardware slows down after a while of use and closes the app.

I have 3 other bible apps on my phone. They work fine, so I didn’t use Logos for a while as the others were quick and straightforward and Logos looked a little daunting. However, some small investment of time has reaped dividends. The searching across multiple translations, also across my library (I also have the desktop version), the multiple windows that I have open simultaneously, such as commentary, different bible versions, search criteria, inter linear etc is very useful. I recommend Logos. I hardly ever use the other apps now.

Logos is a great app, but as far as mobile goes, I believe it’s only scratching the surface of what it could be. They have claimed that devices like the iPad are ‘an order of magnitude’ different from laptops for example and I think this incorrect presupposition keeps them from moving this application forward in a meaningful way. Moreover there are really simple things I should be able to do that I still can’t do, such as make notes with my Apple Pencil, I can highlight but it’s difficult to do. I hope they will realise that the latest and upcoming devices are just as powerful as laptops and as such give me the power on mobile as I’d have on desktop.
