The idea is great and I used to use the app ad pen setup with all my classes. However, lately the app has constantly been crashing every time I want to go back and listen to a pencast. I still use the setup every class to record lectures I hopes that th app won't crash when I try to go back and listen to lectures, but every time the app crashes. This has been a problem for at least two full months and Livescribe has still not fixed the crash. I am currently in the middle of writing three essays that are due in a couple of days, but the app keeps crashing and crashing. I am very disappointed in Livescribe and if the app isn't fixed soon, I will never buy another Livescribe item again, nor will I recommend any Livescribe item to anyone.

*****Update 2***** After some adjustments, pressing harder on paper, the pen is back to working. Still think they have a little tweaking to do but I am back to using my livescribe pen. I would like to give them 4 1/2 stars but it won’t let me. So I am giving them 4 stars. ** Update**. They have fixed the problem with the app that it no longer crashes. However, my new smart pen does not work. Sync shows gap in writings. So my other pen works fine. Hope they can get this figured out. ** *Update*. just downloaded the new APP* So excited to do so. Not for long. App still crashing. Unbeleivable. I love the poems and have had three different ones. However the app is truly lagging behind the Pen....Crashes constantly and it sometimes won’t pair with Aegir Pen. I reduced my rating on from 2 down to 1 star. It has been a while and they have still have not fixed the app. Can’t even get the app to sync with the pen. It is time to fix the app. My recommendation is to not by a pen until you see that they have fixed the issues with the app. Otherwise, just get a pad and paper.

I’ve had couple smart pens from sky pen to livescribe 3 pen. I enjoyed using sky pen because it would sync with Evernote and when my display went out livescribe gave me livescribe 3 pen and I had to use the app. The app has never worked like never syncing with cloud and I can never get the audio by itself I have to download it as a video and it never worked. I have had livescribe for 5plus years. I wish everything worked smoothly but it doesn’t.

**Update** Thank you for updating the app–it works now. The app now syncs with my pen and paper. I can use my pen again, thank you. I paid over $100 for an Aegir pen and over $20 more dollars for pads of paper to use with the new pen. I WASTED MY MONEY! The app constantly crashes. The pen will not sync with the app in order to use the pen and paper. I would give this app a “zero” if I could. Fix this issue ASAP!

Do not recommend. Pen works well. App has lousy interface and very limited functionality. If you just want a screenshot of your handwritten notes, it’s great. Any more than that, the app functions are low quality. Getting files out of the app what a huge hassle. Could accomplish saving copy of my handwritten notes with a free scan to PDF much more easily and cheaply. Without a robust app, the pen (and paper) isn’t worth the money.
