Thought I liked this app. I was a professional writer and editor for many years, so I find most word games too easy. This was pretty good once I was past the lower levels. It’s free to install and play, but you have to buy “hints,” which I did. I started to get annoyed when it didn’t recognize certain legitimate words and did recognize some slang that would probably be challenged in Scrabble. (Doesn’t recognize “lea,” which means “pasture,” for instance, but does recognize “bro.”) Then it really irked me by IMO tricking me into using up my hints. I struggled to figure out the last word in one game, was forced to use a bunch of hints, and it turned out to be the plural of a word it wouldn’t accept the singular of. 😡 I actually emailed the makers and accused them of “cheating” to stump you and make you buy more “hints.” No response.
Also if you accidentally delete the app (I swear, my iPhone does it on its own), you’re back to the bottom level. I emailed them about that, too, and heard nothing.
So I’ve deleted it. I’ll play card games or Jigsaw Puzzle.

Thanks for your feedback. I apologize that Letter Soup left you with a poor aftertaste. As you well know from your time as a professional writer, the English language is not black and white. What constitutes a word for some may be anything but for others. It would actually be easy for us to generate the game's levels using a 172,000+ word Scrabble dictionary but it would result in an awful game, full of pitfalls and oddities that would alienate most of our players. Therefore, we curate each level by hand in an attempt to balance the game's difficulty. This manual process, as you observed, is unfortunately not perfect and we continue to adjust the levels as we receive feedback from players. We recently teamed up with Merriam-Webster to supply definitions and further hone the levels. It's a continuous process that we are committed to improving over time. Finally, I would be happy to restore your progress and lost hints if you would be so kind as to email me directly. I do endeavor to personally respond to all emails, so please drop me another note at the address below and I'll get it sorted for you.
Thanks,
Eddie
