I am happy to find an app like this which allows me to create a set list, and play it back during a rehearsal so that my tempos are good.
It’s also quite beautiful.
However there are many problems with actually using this app.
The biggest issues have to do with screen flow. I’m flummoxed by the problems with managing states. It needs a review of what to show and hide in each state, and careful attention to cleaning up states on exit.
Sometimes the little plus shows up during editing, sometimes not.
Sometimes touching a song name in editing mode brings up the keyboard, other times it starts/stops the click.
In edit mode, sometimes touching the tempo lets you edit the tempo, other times it doesn’t because the letter keyboard gets put in the way, other times it starts/stops the metronome sound. Very confusing and frustrating.
Going out of edit mode sometimes does not get rid of the tempo selector, other times it does.
Big bug - turning the phone sideways got me into plain metronome mode, but turning back to portrait orientation did not get me back to the normal app. I had go out and exit the app to get it to reset.
Suggestion: exiting a set list should stop the click.
Suggestion: dedicate a section of the screen to allow starting/stopping the metronome, along with the shortcuts of touching the song.
Suggestion: make the edit mode fully distinct from the playback mode, so during a gig I can simply touch a song to turn on its click. If I automatically go into editing in some cases, then I’m in danger of messing things up during the gig.
When entering the song names, it would be nice to allow the “return” button to go to the next entry. That would be efficient.
One final topic that is less important but could also be improved - text editing. There seems to be no auto correct, for example to change the letters I and “m” to the contraction “I’m”. It’s nice that the first letter is capitalized, but song titles would be easier to write if they followed title case automatically.
Thank you for considering this feedback!
