Karen Bishop is a Registered Dietitian (and mother of two) who has written a series of kids nutritional stories in order to help parents and teachers educate their kids about healthy eating. All her stories rhyme and are boldly illustrated. These interactive stories have pop-up inserts and sound effects which kids love! You can either read the story yourself or opt for the ‘audio’ option. At the back of each story you’ll find tips for the parents which are very informative. ‘I’ve been in private practice since 2002 and it is evident that so many children are not being educated from a young age about healthy eating. Hence, they land up in my office as overweight, fussy eaters that don’t eat any healthy food and are living off processed junk (which is high in sodium, Trans fatty acids, preservatives and sugar). Obesity, diabetes (type 2) and ADHD are currently a huge problem among children and adolescence. These conditions are all linked to an unhealthy diet/lifestyle which means that they can actually be prevented just through a change in diet. Educating your kids about healthy eating has an incredible impact on their health. If a child chooses to eat healthily and exercise from a young age, it will improve their performance at school, strengthen their immune system and prevent them from developing chronic diseases (Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease). Almost all of my clients: 1) don’t eat enough fruit, vegetables and omega-3 rich foods 2) eat too much junk. This series focuses on all of these and explains (through stories) what these foods do in your body. When a child learns something through a story it’s as if they have discovered it for themselves as apposed a parent ‘telling them’. This self-discovery has a more favorable impact on behavioral change.' Kid’s find these apps fun and the nutritional messages really seem to stick!’ Karen Bishop Kids Nutritional Stories: - Single issues for ZAR49.99 each incl.
