Hygge Stories is a collection of short interactive stories for children age 3-6, where the child participates in forming the story by making simple choices throughout. They are the main character. That way, they enjoy a new story every time. The text is handwritten and the drawings are hand drawn to keep it as familiar as possible. The feel of Hygge Stories is human, relatable and real. The stories are sweet and funny and contain simple moral points. The characters are all the animals you can think of. Furthermore, the Hygge Stories have themes such as colors, feelings, shapes, seasons, weather, fruits, vegetables, and friendship, so they are a perfect tool for learning and dialogic reading. The mission is to help make kids want to read more and to stimulate creativity. Reading aloud strengthens language development, and drawing strengthens the fine motor skills, which is just as important for development as the gross motor skills. Hygge Stories can help pave the way for healthy digital habits. By combining the ”old-fashioned” with the digital, Hygge Stories provides a pedagogically sound alternative that kids can enjoy whenever it is time for ”hygge”…“Hygge” is a Danish word encompassing cozy, nice, warm, happy and familiar – a feeling I hope Hygge Stories can bring throughout the day, in kindergarten, in school, at grandparent’s houses, or at home for a quiet time or as a bedtime story. Siblings can also practice reading by reading along, so the bedtime story can be one and the same for kids of many ages. Hygge Stories are straight from one mom and her three kids to other moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, caregivers, and teachers and their kids. The app contains four free Hygge Stories, as well as packages with Hygge Stories that can be purchased. Three of the free stories were the first ones made, and the fourth was made as a special edition under the Corona crisis to help adults talk to kids about the situation and provide inspiration for activities under the “stay home” period. The free stories give a taste of the concept and the packages, you can purchase. These packages show how Hygge Stories has developed with me and my kids, and the feedback given from readers… Enjoy Hygge Stories! All the best, Lisa
