The Hull Daily Mail app is such a breath of fresh air after years of trying to use the website with its deluge of adverts that made the stories impossible to read. Fingers crossed that the app doesn't go the same way and spoil things!!! I really like the way you can choose which sections to include so that you can tailor the news to your interests. The traffic bulletins are handy as well. Not quite 5 stars, but if you added a search facility that would do it. I was trying to find a previous story the other day to show someone and couldn't. I had to resort to searching the awful HDM website instead. Please fix the videos though - most of them have absolutely nothing to do with the current story when you play them.

After doggedly using the website for several years - mainly for Hull City news - I switched to the app and was very pleasantly surprised. It has the occasional small hiccup, presumably teething troubles, but it is so much smoother and faster to load pages than the website. And (whisper it) there are almost no ads... The main reason the website was almost impossible to use was the sheer volume of ads, often videos, that hog-tied it completely. The app hasn’t gone that way (yet) - long may that continue! It is also very easy to select only the stories you want to see, which helps streamline the experience further.

Really good app that brings the news to you. I like the way you can customise the app to things you are interested in and like other reviewers have mentioned you don’t have to put up with advertising that pops up on the website.

Although the app has seen many improvements the standard of reporting and stories is for the most part utter drivel. Comments are invited and then deleted when they don’t like what is said. Stories like it’s raining and even stories slagging off Hull itself make it a joke. The odd titbit of actual news is the only thing that make it worth following. I would avoid where possible. In that I have made a negative review this probably won’t make it to print either which would be ironic considering the rubbish they print in this paper/app.

The Hull Daily Mail app is well laid out and easy to navigate, it is also updated frequently with the latest local news however, they are just starting to introduce adds...! If their website is anything to go by, it’s a down hill spiral from here. The Hull Daily Mail app allows its users to comment on their story’s, I noticed very quickly that the Hull Daily Mail are not fans on freedom of expression. If you post a valid and well educated comment that criticises the way the story is put to its readers or criticise any of the organisations they are friends with, for example the Hull City Council, your comments are swiftly deleted and you are no longer able to comment on any of their other stories If you are looking for local news and don’t mind adds and a restrictions on freedom of expression, then this app is perfect. If you use this app, never take their stories at face value.
