By the 1950s, most air forces had traded in propeller-driven aircraft for jets and an arms race began between the nuclear-capable strategic bombers and the fast interceptors to combat them. Combat helicopters also saw major advancements. Armoured warfare tactics and technologies were revised, leading to the development of the main battle tank and the armoured infantry vehicle.
