Confined spaces can be serious workplace hazards. OSHA has developed regulations for both the General Industry and Construction Industry to better protect workers in hazardous confined spaces. The standards were updated in 2011 and 2015, respectively. This app explains the regulations and assists in evaluating confined spaces and permit required confined spaces. App tools include: An interactive version of OSHA's General Industry Permit-Required Confined Space Decision Flow Chart, with guidance to help the user navigate through the evaluation process. A side-by-side comparison of the two confined space standards, 29 CFR 1910.146 and 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA, with highlighted sections and comments that point out where significant differences exist. This mobile application was developed by the IUOE National Training Fund (NTF). The NTF provides curriculum, technical services and direct training to local union instructors. This enables them to deliver Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), OSHA Construction and General Industry Outreach, MSHA Miner, and other safety and health courses. NTF train-the-trainer and trainer refresher classes provide instructors with the necessary technical skills and knowledge related to workplace hazards so they could teach classes at their home local union training programs. The IUOE National Training Fund National HAZMAT Program is supported under National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) federal cooperative agreements and grants.
