Cold Case Murder Mysteries

In April of 2018 I stumbled upon CCMM due to finding the Maura Murray episode. I gleefully stayed because Ryan Kraus fascinates me- his breakdown of the psychology of the crimes and the criminals (or sometimes, even “normal”, every day people) leave me hanging on his every word and researching his views long after that week’s episode has ended. I started on iTunes, moved to the website as a paid subscriber ($3 a month for super high quality listening material), and now I’ve arrived at the CCMM app with its perfect interface and easy to organize listings. Thanks for all you do, Ryan. You have a lifelong listener in me :)

I have nothing bad to say about the content in the podcast, but I’ve had a few issues with the app itself. My first issue is that refreshing the episodes list strangely seems to sign me in and out and remove the full episode list and leave only the free ones. Refreshing again brings them all back. Viewing paid/unpaid episodes is a good option but I can’t tell if this is was intended to work this way. Very strange to me. My second issue is that adding episodes to the playlist automatically pushes the newly added episode to the top of the playlist. Example: I was going to binge the 5 episodes on the Amityville Horror and added them to the list in order (1,2,3,4,5). When I stared playing them, I saw that they were in reverse (5,4,3,2,1). It is possible to manually drag the episodes back into order, or clear the list and add them back in reverse order of how you want to listen, but it seems like a lot off extra effort for something that should be pretty easy. Third, I’ve had issues with the 15 second skip buttons either not working or not rewinding beyond a certain point. This can be fixed by dragging and dropping the ball, but it’s easy to lose the spot in the episode that way considering that some of the episodes are hours long, and a small movement of the finger can result in a 10 minute skip. Also, occasional crashes of the app, but that isn’t abnormal for my outdated 6S. Love the podcast! Would love to see an update to this app.

I still can’t find a podcast that even comes close to this podcast. I love the way Ryan dissects each episode it’s freakin amazing. I wish I had this kind of mind it’s just crazy. I cant imagine what kind of kid you were. It’s a little scary and awesome at the same time. I find myself listening to your episodes over and over again. Just absolutely love it. Great job Ryan!

I do enjoy the podcast. It’s an interesting take on cases that I feel other podcasters just don’t take, however, I’m just unable to enjoy when it starts to deviate from the actual case discussing evolution and man into machine that somehow almost every episode is supposed to tie into? It’s reaching too hard. It’s unnatural (and cringey) most times. You’ll see what I mean if you’ve just started listening. Anyway don’t let it deter you from trying it out, it’s just his style; I just find myself going to a different podcast if he does that.

Ryan Kraus has a gift for being able to breakdown cases in a fascinating and clear way. I love his insights. Fascinating perspective on a number of high profile cases. Subscription based for most episodes and very worth the $4.
