I simply do not understand the trend for developers not including a level select screen in their games — especially with puzzles, in which you might want to try a level again if you could solve it better. Not to mention that you can’t share your game with anyone else without being locked out of any levels that they solve (unless you reset your progress, which can only be done by deleting and redownloading the app). I’m really not asking for much here, but it makes a big difference.
Besides following that irritating trend, the game also follows another: in-game extras require sitting through 30-second ads, which often have second parts that require an additional wait before you’re able to return to the game. Even if I did have the time to spend on that, the extended interruption kills the momentum of the game. I’ve downloaded plenty of apps that I’ve learned about from 5-second ads. As far as I’m concerned, requiring the player to sit through these long ads actually disincentivises me both to look into the app being advertised and to keep the app that’s foisting the ad on me.
Finally, this app is huge, it burns through battery like crazy, and it heats the phone up until it’s uncomfortable to hold. That’s both inconvenient for me and probably not good for the phone. So I might play around with this game for a little longer (it’s a good game, really!), but it’s not something I’m planning on keeping for the long term.
