Blinker: Buy, sell & refi cars

Seriously, this is such a great concept. Gone are the days of being low-balled because someone “has cash”. This app offers an easy way to allow buyers to finance and opens your car up to more potential buyers than just those with cash on hand. It’s not instant gratification as not enough people are using the app, but the fact that I got my asking price and the process was laid out for me was wonderful!

This app causes our simple private party transaction to become a nightmare of red tape. The process was painfully slow. The requirements were over the top (snap a photo WITH the app of my DL, to “verify identity”, when I’m literally standing next to the seller?! They know I’m me!). Can’t upload any photos — all taken WITH app. And what are they doing with all our DL photos? What if they are compromised? Not to mention they have my bank account info. I plan to delete the app and request they destroy all our info as soon as the lengthy process finally finishes. Everything about this app makes the process slower, less efficient, and more cumbersome. Do not believe the marketing. Sometimes technology doesn’t make things smoother but instead puts up roadblocks. You don’t need an app for everything! The icing on the cake is when we had completed the sale, they sent me a document called “Your Guide to the DMV” which contained totally false information for my state. The DMV rep laughed and said they had no idea what these instructions were about. If they’re doing to do business in California, they need to research how our DMV works. You can’t just copy and paste instructions from a different state.

This has been one of the most frustrating car buying experiences I have ever gone through. 1)Takes too long to verify your identity/ will only do it during their business hours. Forget about hoping to purchase a car later that day if you submitted your Drivers License to them the same day. 2) If the seller screws up on paperwork you won’t be able to transfer the title. This means you could possibly pay late fees. Blinker is slow to correct paperwork issues with seller/ may not even be able to get in contact with them. This means you have to take care of something they should have. 3) If title is electronic and you live in CA you cannot use their temporary permit paperwork in the meantime while working on getting the title. 4) Failure on their part to stamp the title when it was sent to me... resulting in having to ship it back to them to validate the transfer. In summary: Multiple hours (7+) of wasted time at the DMV and confusing red tape that Blinker does not fully understand/does not care to let you know about.

I normally don’t give one stars and I normally don’t waste my time writing reviews. But these app developers should know their app isn’t what it is marketed as. “Buy and sell cars with a snap of a photo” You’ll need your license plate number and vin number too. I took photos of my car prior to downloading the app - didn’t know that I had to create an account, verify my email, verify my DL and snap a photo of myself in the app. Why can’t I upload a picture of myself? Why can’t I upload the pictures I took of my car? Now it’s 10pm I’m in bed and don’t want to snap a photo of myself in bed, and it’s way too dark for me to snap a picture of my car now. Even though I spent my entire day cleaning and taking pictures of my car. So I just wasted my time and will go find somewhere else to sell my car. It was worth a try. And after reading other people’s reviews I’m not too sure if I’d trust selling my car on here in the first place. Also the app glitches out a lot and takes forever to load. Great concept, bad execution.

They want all of your information then say you have to sign over your title and hand over your keys and car then you “should” get a deposit in your account within three days. When I questioned this I was told to just trust them. I said I would hand over they keys and title as soon as I could verify that the funds were in my account. Once they realized they weren’t going to get to drive away with my car, keys and title their fake buyer suddenly cancelled the offer on the car. Don’t believe the scam! They tell you to trust them and to just read the reviews. I don’t believe reviews that they paid to get. If you don’t want to have your car stolen then don’t use Blinker.
