If your institution genuinely cared about film they would not provide such a diluted and unusable service. At £4.99 a month you get a subscription to a back catalogue of genuine classics and beautifully composed film. But when faced with the task of an application to make such a dream work, BFI crumble. It is disgusting to even conjure up the idea of what this app appears to be, from its shabby iPhone 4 layout to its broken chrome cast system to its need for the website to function to its constant CONSTANT buffering. This is quite possibly the worst streaming service I’ve ever seen and a spit in the face to film and art alike. Take notes from criterion channel before you take such a stupid leap. I will be cancelling my subscription if I do not see any changes to this

I have to say that I’m absolutely stunned at the complete ineptitude of this entire service. - Films within the library, that you’re paying for by the way, are suddenly not available for no reason whatsoever, at least we’re not informed as to why. - This App claims to automatically launch after you select ‘PLAY’ on the BFI website...um, no it doesn’t, not since the recent iPad iOS 13 update it doesn’t. - When I emailed BFI to enquire as to when the App will be updated to work with the new operating system, I received absolutely no response; this is despite receiving an email promising that I’d get a reply within 48hrs??? I’m still waiting... - Why you need to install this App and use in conjunction with the BFI website itself is completely beyond me? Why this App is not the only thing you require with libraries directly included etc beggars belief, it’s as if it was thought through and built by 5 year olds.

Let me watch half the movie then it suddenly stopped working. Multiple attempts to restart the movie I rented have been unsuccessful. I’ve got 14 hours left in which to watch it so I hope I can get it working again. I don’t understand why they suddenly introduced the app in the first place rather than renting something and just playing it via their website. It’s certainly more convoluted this way and that’s if it worked. Which it doesn’t.

I couldn't believe how much archive content there is on this. Fascinating glimpses into the past. Works fine on our 'phones although better of course on larger screen

Previous versions were rather unstable but this works flawlessly both on WiFi and over cellular (just enable this in the Apple app settings menu).
