BART Watch

Station agent was unwilling to help me paying for parking. I am an 80 year old woman with luggage and a disabled placard. I hope I don’t get a ticket because I was unable to find out how to pay. This happened on9/7 at 2:10 at the Orinda Bart station. I am using this platform because I couldn’t find any other place on your website to report this.

1) unless it’s an actual crime where there’s physical harm or something really bad, this app works for that. If you want to report someone playing their music loud, smoking, smoking meth, any other “low level” offenses, BART will respond with, “well if our officers don’t witness this first hand, there’s nothing they can do.” Essentially the app creates an illusion that the police will actually respond to broken window type annoyances on BART. They’re substituting the app to make up for the lack of patrolling and enforcement on the trains. 2) the app needs data service to send out your concern. Reception in the tunnels during commute time is non-existent. So why have an app if it won’t work during the busy peak time?

I have had luck with this app where police show up when there is a problem reported. The weird thing about them showing up is they announce once they arrive to the train "did somebody call for police assistance? ". Well, I hate to break it to you but sometimes people don't want to be outed like that, especially when they're reporting disruptive behavior or a crime in progress. Another time, I reported massive amounts of drug use (with video), I got no response and I'm sure nothing happened. The app in theory, is a good idea but in reality people on the other end actually need to respond for it to work.

At 6 am, two passengers in the next seat were actively shooting up and one was fumbling with his sharp. I texted Bart watch, because I was afraid he had dropped his needle on the seat for another passenger to sit on. I immediately received a response from dispatch, but no cops came. When I texted back, the dispatcher asked me if I would consider making a citizen’s arrest. I had no idea how that works and was texting BART because I was afraid to confront these people shooting up. BART police never showed up while I was on the train. and BART ignored my request for confirmation that the police ever responded. #FAIL

Report all you want, BART isn’t doing anything about it. I guess this app checks some box to make it appear they care about safety of passengers. I’ve lost count of how many times of reported disruptive behavior or crime in progress and nothing has happened. The one and only time I saw police get on a train was after a woman was yelling about killing all the Mexicans, killing all the white peoples, killing all the black people, cutting heads off and shooting people up. . . BART cops got on the train, talked to her for about 30 seconds, cops left, the woman stayed, and on the train went! DISGRACEFUL!!!!
