Bank of Ireland Mobile Banking

This app just sums up Bank of Ireland perfectly. Doesn’t make the slightest effort to try and improve something that barely functions. The app does what it’s supposed to but it is so disheartening to see friends using their respective banks mobile apps, seeing how great mobile banking apps can be. AIB are far and away more up to date when it comes to their mobile banking app. We’ve been told for years now that change is coming with the mobile app but when they won’t even update the resolution of the app for iPhone X and above users, you really question their commitment to that promise.

I use this app for most of my banking but there appears to be a ‘bug’ with the mobile phone top up option. Once you select the mobile top up, the app crashes. This has happened consistently for the last few months and it seems to be just the app that is the issue. When I use the main computer to log in to 365 online and mobile phone top up, there is no issue there. Hopefully this can be fixed because in the situation where I am out it is much more difficult to top up a mobile phone (of one of my teens) using my phone. Thanks!

I was just reading two reviews or comments prior to writing this. I am a visually impaired user and find this app quite good as far as being user friendly goes, my only downside to it, is a thing that was mentioned in a prior review, which is, it’s a pity the touch ID hasn’t been introduced yet as my son who is with another bank has that facility and as a virtually blind person myself, I would find it and a Longwood so many other blind users would find it so helpful as I have been locked out of the app in the past for putting in wrong digits, other than that I find it a very very good app

I’ve been banking with Bank of Ireland since 1999 and I’m seriously considering switching my accounts to AIB, KBC or Ulster Bank. I’d love to see an app that has Touch ID, an ability to link with Fitbit Pay/Apple Pay and utilities within the app that can help the user track their spending. I recently signed up for a Revolut account which enables the uses to freeze their card themselves, unfreeze the card, change the pin of the card and set a limit on a card. I don’t understand why BOI are years behind most global banks in terms of technology. Invest in your technology department!

If you’re looking for a front end to the BoI website, this app works perfectly. But it is built for the iPhone 4S screen size, and lacks most modern features you get in other banking apps (Face ID, Apple Pay, transfer funds using phone numbers etc. ) If you only need something basic to manage your account, it’s perfect. But don’t expect any state of the art features. Or features from the last 5 years.
